چکیده
With the advent of ambient pressure X-ray excited electron spectroscopy, near-edge absorption fine structure spectroscopy is widely used to investigate hydrogen-bonding environment in aqueous solutions, ice, and adsorbed water. When Auger-Meitner electrons are detected, method becomes inherently surface-sensitive because limited escape depth electrons. In such experiments with samples, gas-phase water inevitably present. It impacts acquired spectra two ways: (1) Absorption along path upstream sample reduces photon flux reaching condensed phase. (2) Spectra originating from front analyzer contribute recorded spectra. Here, we develop discuss a procedure disentangle condensed-phase contribution A novel approach quantify remove allows receiving at high vapor free artifacts.

pH dependence of the electronic structure of glycine.
The carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen K-edge spectra were measured for aqueous solutions of glycine by total electron yield near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (TEY NEXAFS) spectroscopy. The bulk solution pH was systematically varied while maintaining a constant amino acid concentration. Spectra were assigned through comparisons with both previous studies and ab initio computed spectra of isol...
متن کاملOxygen K-edge electron energy loss spectra of hydrous and anhydrous compounds.
First-principles calculations have been employed to examine the possible use of electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) as a tool for determining the presence of OH groups and hence hydrogen content in compounds. Our density functional theory (DFT) based calculations describe accurately the experimental EELS results for forsterite (Mg2SiO4), hambergite (Be2BO3(OH)), brucite (Mg(OH)2) and diasp...

This issue of the IBM journal describes recent advances in the field of nanoscience, with an emphasis on cathode lens-based microscopy methods, including LEEM (low-energy electron microscopy), PEEM (photoemission electron microscopy), and other related analytical approaches. Papers highlight scientific advances and instrumental developments on topics that include thin films, organic films, surf...
متن کاملStudy of excited states of fluorinated copper phthalocyanine by inner shell excitation
Near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra of hexadecafluoro copper phthalocyanine (FCuPc) films (thickness of 50 Å) on MoS2 substrates were observed near the carbon (C) and fluorine (F) K-edges. From the analysis of the dependence of C and F K-edge NEXAFS spectra on the photon incidence angle (α), the average molecular tilt angle was determined to be 30◦. The lowest and second ...
متن کاملElectron states near graphene edge
The band structure of graphene near the Fermi surface is often well described by the effective mass approximation. In this approach electron wave function obeys the Diractype equation. To describe a number of effects it is necessary to supplement the equation with boundary conditions. Using the Hermiticity and the time reversal symmetry we derive the phenomenological boundary conditions for a m...
